Community engagement is a key aspect of Ellen's creative practice, teaching, and artwork. Whether through large-scale installations, public art, or sharing intimate documentation of daily life, Ellen often invites and prompts viewers to engage and participate with her work.
Ellen's work often examines the cyclical nature of beginnings and endings, generative apocalypse, and the concept of home through interconnected relationships.
Through her artwork, Ellen also explores the unique experiences, challenges, and opportunities that exist regarding art in micropolitan regions and artists who live there. Originally from a small city near Lake Michigan, Ellen now lives in Central Washington where she is a college instructor of art history, contemporary art, figure drawing, and illustration. She also creates and leads classes on mural-making and creativity.
She earned a BFA from Kendall College of Art and Design and an MFA in Interdisciplinary Arts from Wilson College.
